We are investigating measurement methods based on spectroscopy.

Laser and spectroscopic measurement of plasma

From left to right: Optical elements inside the dye laser; various plasmas; echelle spectrometer; hydrogen molecular spectra.

We develop laser measurement methods for plasmas and gases/solids such as two-photon absorption laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy, semiconductor laser absorption spectroscopy, and laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy.
Spectroscopic measurements of ion, atomic, and molecular emission line spectra are performed to study parameters and physical phenomena in fusion plasmas (energy), ECR discharge plasmas (industry), and glow discharge plasmas (basic). We also develop spectrometers and simulate plasma phenomena.

Spectroscopy of Solids

From left to right: Triboluminescence of glacial sugar in air; triboluminescence spectrum of glacial sugar in hydrogen; diamond particles; temperature dependence of fluorescence spectrum

We aim to reveal the charging and stress at the time of fracture by spectroscopic measurement of the luminescence (triboluminescence) produced when crystals are fractured.
We are developing a temperature sensor using the fluorescence spectrum of diamond particles containing NV centers to measure the temperature of MEMS devices and semiconductor integrated circuits.

Hydrogen Permeation Properties of PdCu membrane

From left to right: Hot cathode water-cooled discharge system; Laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) of PdCu membrane

The goal of this project is to clarify the hydrogen permeation characteristics of PdCu membrane for the hydrogen flux measurement in plasma and hydrogen separation in plasma reactor.

Phase compensation for rectangular waveguide modes

From left to right: Light propagating in a waveguide (mode); optical intensity distribution of emitting light

We are developing a method to control the optical intensity distribution of light emitted from a waveguide by phase compensation of light (mode) propagating in a rectangular waveguide for application to a narrow endoscope.
